Contestant of the Week for June 28-July 2, 2021

Courtney Shah from Jeopardy! is your Contestant of the Week. Just as all hope in the game show community for another 5-time champion was lost, Courtney proved herself through the thick & thin, from all three positions, & clinched win #5 against all odds Friday joining Brian Chang & Zach Newkirk in the ToC roster & became the first contestant since MacKenzie Jones in Feb. 2020 to sweep an entire week/taping day in the process. She now holds a 5-day total of $79,258, surpassing Emily Sands as this season’s highest-scoring female contestant despite an ugly last two games.

Honorable mentions: Rogelio Sepulveda, Jr. from the TPIR episode to be aired 3/12 brought home $53,135 in prizes; Ma Luz Imperio from cameraman Wayne’s retirement episode on TPIR scored a $11K bonus from the Big Wheel & redeemed to win the “Spongebob Squarepants”-themed showcase & took home $49,974 cash & prizes; Charles Jones of the Air Force from the military-themed TPIR season finale, a salute to the military, also took home a hefty amount of winnings to close out the rocky second half of the season; Natasha Lilly beat Brad Rutter on The Chase all by herself w/ 19 correct answers for the standard $70K.

Rose Lee from TPIR is your Zonk Contestant of the Week. Originally, for her trip/boat showcase on the episode to air 3/29, she bid exactly $29K. Then, much to the dismay of many, decided to increase her bid by $2K…. and she regretted it big time as her original bid was just $331 within the ARP… and thanks to that very, very dumb move, we ended up with our sixteenth & final DOUBLE OVER this season. Why did you do that, Rose?! 😡

Dishonorable mentions: Thursday’s Jeopardy! episode was a WASHOUT meaning we had both a Daily Double skunking & a FJ! triple stumper, and the low Coryat score of $28,200 didn’t help, either; Friday’s J! episode was also a mess, & this episode also had a FJ! triple stumper for the second Friday in a row, knocking all three of the scores down low; Kenneth Perkins is still spreading misinformation on Bobby’s site (& on Facebook) about Double Overs, and he SERIOUSLY needs to GET LOST & GET A LIFE.

The first half of this season was quite the anomality of sorts w/ a handful of Double Showcase wins (incl. true DSWs), droughts on some of the pricing games having been broken, high amount of winnings thanks largely to the primetime specials & we had our first perfect PG show in over four years. The second half, however, was HORRIBLE mainly due to the mass double overbids in May-June (one was almost an El Skunko), skunked pricing game episodes & just so many embarrassing moments all around.

For a season impacted by cuts from COVID-19, this show did alright. BEST/WORST moments to come.
